Abstract

This article brings a reflection on the story of a woman who gave birth at the age of 64 in Spain and lost custody of her children after the court decided that she was unable to take care of the children. Eleven years earlier, Mauricia had already lost custody of her first daughter for the same reason. Despite being diagnosed with a mental pathology, the Spanish court did not prevent Mauricia from traveling twice to the US to undergo treatments to get pregnant, but after she had the children, they were taken away from her custody. The first time when she was 53 and the second at 64. Thus, the question arises: was the real reason for the loss of custody really the bad conditions that Mauricia provided for the children, or was she a victim of ageism?
