Influence of Precipitation on Bathing Water Quality of the Beaches and Drainage Channels of Santos Alessandro Alves de Almeida, Renan Braga Ribeiro
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study assessed the impact of rainfall on the bathing water quality of beaches, where poor beach quality is linked to runoff in drainage channels, mainly during precipitation events. The analysis focused on the concentration of Escherichia coli, enterococci and other coliforms at different sampling points. Samples were collected before, during and after precipitation events, revealing that rainfall initially reduces bacterial concentrations, followed by a significant increase after the precipitation ends. The results emphasize the importance of continuous monitoring.
