Abstract

A large number of researchers have studied particle movement in rotary kilns, but their results have been inconsistent, particularly when determining the average particle residence time in the kiln. This article presents the results of studies conducted at an experimental station located in the Unisanta Unit Operations Laboratory, measuring 1.10 meters long and 0.164 meters in diameter, in comparison with results obtained using classical formulas. The results demonstrate that Sullivan's equation most closely approximated the experimental results, primarily due to the concept of layered particle bed movement
