Reproductive aspects of Rhamdia quelen collected in the Una do Prelado River, at the Juréia-Itatins Ecological Station (Peruíbe-SP)

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the reproductive period and sex ratio of Rhamdia quelen in the Una do Prelado River, within the Juréia-Itatins Ecological Station (Peruíbe, SP). Eight sampling campaigns were carried out using a gillnet (90 mm mesh) between March 2024 and February 2025. The results of the gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indices and the distribution of gonadal macromaturation stages evidenced a spawning period that comprises spring and summer. The total sex ratio did not differ from the expected (1:1), but there was seasonal differentiation (summer). The results corroborate data from other studies conducted in different locations, as well as presenting important regional data on reproductive dynamics
