Geopolitical Impacts of Geoengineering on Global Climate Governance
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the geopolitical impacts of geoengineering on global climate governance, based on the theory of just war and securitization. The study is justified by the need to understand the political, ethical, and legal implications of adopting these technologies. The methodology adopted is qualitative, based on a literature review. The results point to a scenario of regulatory uncertainties, transboundary risks in the use of geoengineering, which may generate moral hazard, climate litigation, geopolitical power asymmetries, and gaps in climate governance. It is concluded that there is a need to regulate geoengineering through international treaties and a polycentric climate governance.
