Overview of Therapeutic Cloning in Brazil: Legal, Ethical, and Technical Analysis

Abstract

Therapeutic cloning uses embryonic stem cells for medical purposes, enabling cell regeneration and transplants without rejection. Objectives: to analyze legal, ethical, and technical aspects in Brazil under Law No. 11.105/2005. Scope: the research focuses on the use of non-viable or frozen embryos for more than 3 years for therapeutic purposes. Methodology: this is a literature review with searches using terms such as therapeutic cloning and the right to life. Results: the legislation allows use within very limited parameters and faces ethical, technical, and legal criticisms. Conclusions: the technique shows promising potential but requires more flexible regulation and technical advancements to overcome implementation challenges.
