Abstract
The present work analyzed data obtained from the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) and National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), which shows that there have been cuts made by the Federal Government in the budget for Social Assistance (AS) and the Single Social Assistance System (SUAS), in reference of the doctrinal welfare state’s concept and its application in Brazil. Using the inductive method, it was verified that there is a Brazilian model of welfare state built on pressure from social movements and that this kind of social welfare state has been deconstructed by the cuts promoted by the Union directed to the realization of AS and consolidation of SUAS, perpetuating a state of miserability of those who need state interference to remedy the condition of poverty and precariousness that afflict them
