Abstract

The analysis of lubricating oils for 2-stroke cycle machines is necessary to prevent possible failures in an engine due to bad quality of the oil or being out of the specifications. Six samples of 2-stroke lubricating oil were used, and through Raman spectroscopy, it was possible to determine some components of each sample. The results were then related to the principal component analysis (PCA) technique, and it was concluded that with this technique, it was possible to identify the basic components of the samples, as well as differentiate possible dyes and additives.
