Abstract

The prevalence of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) has consistently increased throughout the world due largely to a more stressful, sedentary lifestyle and very unhealthy eating habits. In this study, the relationship between visceral adiposity, measured by abdominal circumference, and the frequency of DM2 was investigated in a sample of 2475 patients selected in 18 cardiology offices. The presence of visceral adiposity, measured by measuring abdominal circumference, was very prevalent, present in more than 50% of men and in more than 60% of women, configuring an increased metabolic risk profile in both sexes. the expression of visceral adiposity and its relationship with the frequency of DM2, in both sexes, we observed a significant association, configuring a 2-fold and 3-fold increase, respectively, in men and women, in the diagnosis of DM2 in those with adiposity visceral
