Main Article Content

Abstract

This work stems from research conducted in the Urbanism Master's dissertation at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in 2003, which consists of an evaluation of urban development and the various actors that operated in the territory of Baixada Santista throughout the 20th century. The aim is to highlight the main events that directly or indirectly impacted the regional space and contributed to the changes, both in physical-territorial aspects and socio-economic issues, that have established the current dynamics the region finds itself in at the beginning of the 21st century. This study seeks to understand the various manifestations that occurred during this period, identifying tensions generated by the interests of the various agents operating in the territory, while simultaneously aiming to contribute with an analytical view to support discussions that will shape new challenges for the development of the Metropolitan Region of Baixada Santista.
