Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the contribution of neuroscience to understand the academic performance of middle school students, with a special focus on executive functions. Based on a literature review, central concepts such as brain plasticity, structures involved in learning, adolescent cognitive processes, memory, attention, emotions and motivation are discussed. The relationship between executive functions and academic skills are explored deeply, presenting neuroscience-based teaching strategies to foster the development of these functions. Finally, the importance of the partnership between school and family in enhancing school performance and socio-emotional development is highlighted. The findings point to the need for educational practices aligned with brain functioning, respecting the uniqueness of each student and promoting meaningful learning.
