Abstract

Belt conveyors are crucial in industry, facilitating the continuous flow of materials, and their models can be open or enclosed. It is important to note that enclosed conveyor belts play a vital role in minimizing environmental impacts, preventing material spills and the dispersion of particulates generated during their movement. Thus, this research aims to compare the importance of enclosed and open belt conveyors from an economic and environmental point of view, focusing the analysis on a port terminal in Santos, which underwent a modernization to solve the air pollution and stench resulting from its port operations. The general objective is to explore the principles of sustainability, highlighting the relationship between port and city, with an emphasis on the search for processes that do not put public health at risk, especially from a technological point of view. The specific objectives will compare the advantages of enclosed and open conveyor belts, with the aim of providing a constructive assessment of the processes, focusing on the benefits and reduction of problems with the management of this equipment. The methodology will include a literature review, qualitative analysis, as well as a case study.
