Abstract
Responsible for almost a third of the total cargo transported by containers in Brazil, the Port of Santos still remains the largest economic asset for the port sector in Brazil. However, the technological advancement of the port area implies advances that in this port are still uncertain, where the port authority conflicts over the performance of the public and private sectors. The present study highlighted the bottleneck factors that affect competitiveness against its competitors and threaten its sovereignty, along with the growing search for scalability in the port sector, with megaships and operations aimed at economies of scale. To this end, the study was conducted in a qualitative exploratory way, which it was sought to map the problem explicitly through bibliographic sources. As a result of this article, it was concluded that private investment together with efficient management, aware of the obstacles, are vital for the improvement of the port.
