ANALYSIS OF THE PROFILE OF LEADERS IN THE PORT SCOPE: CASE STUDY WITH PROFESSIONALS WORKING IN THE PORT OF SANTOS

Abstract

This article presents a detailed analysis of the leadership profile among professionals working at the Port of Santos. The research, of a quantitative nature, aimed to identify professional characteristics such as length of service, leadership style, and other leadership skills and practices that contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of port operations. It also covers organizational issues such as salary range, company size, and finally a personal profile of those in leadership positions, seeking characteristics such as gender, age, length of leadership, and professional aspirations. Using a structured questionnaire, we collected data from a representative sample of leaders working in different areas of the port, including logistics, administration, operations, and security. The results reveal significant trends regarding predominant leadership style, gender, ageism, and the DISC factor (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness), as defined by Dr. William Moulton Marston (1920), as well as the most valued competencies among professionals. Furthermore, the study discusses the implications of these findings for the training and development of leaders in the context of international trade. Finally, the article offers practical recommendations to improve leadership practices at the Port of Santos, aiming to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of port operations, mapping these professionals so that companies can have a clear view of the labor market. This will also allow professionals who aspire to such positions to understand the necessary characteristics for this movement, and those who already hold such positions to know if their posture or characteristics are predominant or minority.
