MODULAR CONSTRUCTION AS A SOCIAL SOLUTION: A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO PORT DEVELOPMENT
Main Article Content
Abstract
The importance of ports for the economy and international relations is undeniable, being the main source of income for many municipalities due to port operations and foreign trade. However, there is little focus on the populations that inhabit port areas and face socioeconomic challenges. This article aims to investigate the reuse of container in civil construction as a viable and sustainable solution to problems faced by these communities, promoting waste reduction and ecological practices during the adaptation and installation process. The methodological procedures include the analysis of successful cases where modular structures with containers were applied, highlighting benefits such as sustainability, energy efficiency, and the generation of accessible housing and businesses. The results indicate that these projects have the potential to boost the income and well-being of local communities, as well as strengthen the economy and tourism by transforming ports into competitive commercial hubs. Finally, the relevance of this approach is discussed in the context of sustainable construction and opportunities for future development.
