Abstract

Promoting mobility is a challenge for agents who move things and people within transport modes. In this context, analyzing and optimizing transport operations can contribute both to the safety of its activities and to the reduction of pollutant emissions, which directly contributes to the growth and environmental and economic development of a region; it is also important to consider the relevance of the need for investments in transport infrastructure, so that services can be offered with lower costs and more efficiency. The railway modal, due to its characteristics, becomes particularly competitive in handling large volumes of cargo, as well as in diversifying the types of goods transported. In addition to these observations, and after checking the literature on the importance of a transport infrastructure that represents gains in its competitiveness, as well as the lowest environmental impact for the country, this research allows to demonstrate, in a bibliographical, exploratory and descriptive way , the contribution of the railway sector within the logistics process and in the production chain, presenting, in this study, a systemic view of its behavior and relevance in operations at the port of Santos.
