SUSTAINABILITY AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY: THE APPLICATION OF ESG PRINCIPLES IN THE PORT OF SANTOS

Abstract
This article explores the application of ESG principles (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) at the Port of Santos, highlighting the sustainability and corporate responsibility initiatives adopted. The research, based on a literature review, addresses the environmental impacts of port operations and the mitigation measures implemented. Furthermore, it discusses the governance structure based on the three lines of defense model, which guarantees efficient risk management and transparency of operations. In the social sphere, the article examines community development programs that promote the inclusion and professional growth of young people. The comparison with international ports, such as Rotterdam, illustrates the importance of climate goals and diversity and inclusion initiatives. The results indicate that the adoption of ESG practices by the Port of Santos not only meets regulatory requirements, but also promotes sustainable socioeconomic development, strengthening the positive image of the Santos Port Authority. The study concludes that the integration of ESG principles is essential for the future of port operations, contributing to sustainability and corporate responsibility in the sector.
