Abstract
The application of bamboo as a supplement to concrete has been taken into account since the beginning of the century, the results achieved in coordinated work in several countries, has proven its viability as an alternative con-struction material. This search for alternatives that degrade less or minimize environmental impacts on planet Earth has become a common practice in countries that are worried about the aggressions that cause injuries in the environment, where the exploitation of natural resources, deforestation, pollution, soil, air and water, contribute to these problems. In this sense there is a growing movement of civil society, in favor of preserving the environment, seeking alternatives and new techniques that not only minimize environmental impacts, but also reduce the exacerbated exploitation of inputs, cooperating for a fair and balanced socioeconomic development. The use of bamboo in the various fields of Engineer-ing is an alternative to the path of this development, as this plant is an excellent carbon sequestrator, is a durable, light-weight, versatile material with extraordinary mechanical, physical and chemical characteristics that allow it several forms of natural or processed applications. However the biggest problem is the lack of calculation parameters so that these works can be regulated and, in this way, better designed and developed by the responsible professionals.
