Abstract
This work presents a quantitative description of the impact notch toughness values around welded joints as a way to better evaluate the performance and reliability of this type of union, widely used in steel structures and pressure vessels. To obtain a more comprehensive analysis, It was used the absorbed energy and the relationship between the different fractographic morphologies from the specimens. Based on fractographic analysis of the specimens, force versus time curves were simulated for the Charpy test, which serve to better describe the results obtained in these tests. The analyzed data were obtained from standard specimens (10´10´55 mm), machined at different distances from the weld centerline, in order to allow a quantitative scan of the punctual mechanical performance of the steel around the joint welded.
