Importance of corrosion in off-road truck cooling systems Marcelo Moura, Nestor Ferreira de Carvalho

Abstract

Engines are the most valuable components in off-road trucks, and due to this, most maintenance activities focus on preserving their functions, as well as those of the subsystems that interact directly with them, such as the cooling system. Knowing that water, used as the primary heat transfer fluid in cooling systems, plays a part in the chemical and biological processes that cause problems related to corrosion in this equipment, a robust maintenance process is necessary to avoid related failures. Loss of material and cracks in engine parts. This work aims to show the mechanisms causing corrosion problems, in addition to showing practical mitigation actions being applied at the Moatize mine in Mozambique, with the help of tribological analyses and compliance with standards.
