Use of vibration analysis to monitor operational parameters and detect mechanical failures in diesel engines of mobile equipment Marcelo Moura, Willy Ank de Morais

Abstract
Engines are the highest-value components in off-highway trucks, representing, on average, 40% of all material costs. Due to this, most maintenance activities focus on preserving their functions and avoiding mechanical failures. In this type of mobile equipment, oil analysis and thermography techniques are pretty widespread; however, unlike what happens with stationary assets, vibration analysis still does not have much space in companies. This work aims to show some studies that have been successful in using vibration analysis to monitor operational parameters and how they have the potential to address issues related to fatigue and misalignment, contributing to reducing failure costs..
