Abstract

This paper reports on the concepts of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), thus aiming to implement a maintenance plan as a strategy to reduce unexpected downtime of a Doosan DX225LCA hydraulic excavator. The method used was a case study, which began by reviewing the definitions and characteristics of the topics under study. It then described the case study in which the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) was applied, using reliability and availability indicators. This analysis indicated the implementation of a new maintenance plan for the equipment. The results indicate the effectiveness obtained due to the implementation of the indicated maintenance plan, verifying the reduction of costs and increase of profitability for the company, with an associated significant reduction of failures. Therefore, the key to achieving better efficiency for an asset lies in the careful dimensioning and application of its maintenance plan, in line with its performance and activities, this being the central concept that this work intended to explore and implement.
