Abstract
This article presents theoretical subsidies on the potentialities of using research as an educational principle in promoting change through activities that contribute to encouraging students' intellectual freedom. It is the school's role to promote a space where ideas and creativity are valued and encouraged, where the student's potential is recognized. The methodology used was qualitative, carried out through a bibliographic survey on the topics covered. Data analysis presented descriptively. In light of the results, discussed in the literature consulted, it is emphasized that we need to embrace a teaching and learning model, where practices are closer to the historical context and that contribute to the construction of the new moment. Encouraging the use of research as a didactic strategy by teachers must be linked to the formation of proactive, autonomous students, and to the recognition that the student has possibilities to make their movement active in the sense of learning, seeking and discovering the things that surround them.
