Abstract
The proposed study aims to list the main concepts that guide the reading and writing process. For the development of educational work, literacy, you need as a starting point for your organization, a concept of literacy covering the different dimensions of this process which, in turn, should be taken as guiding principles of the work in classroom and help children who have some kind of difficulty in reading and writing process. Thus, in today's society, it is important to think of literacy as a social and cultural practice in which they develop the formation of critical consciousness, the production capacity of oral and written texts, reading and understanding the relationships between sounds and letters. As theoretical frames this work is based on studies of Vygotsky, Freire, Cagliari, blacksmith, Sole, Castro Soares, Kramer, Short, Morillo, among others. In the methodological supports, used the literature interpreting it as the search for meaning of the theoretical contents exposed by research and discovery of the contexts in which they are made. Literacy is, in Freire's sense condition for reading the word becomes a pledge of reading the world. In this perspective, we believe that reading and writing skills should not serve to address the interests of a technological society increasingly complex, but above all to form the individual as a subject that sees an integral, co-responsible, the constitution of logic that society.
