Abstract

This study will focus on police violence against residents of substandard housing (favelas). This population constantly suffers from various forms of violations, both legally and physically and morally. The obstacle to this issue is the failure of the State to fulfill its duty to ensure public safety, through abuses in daily practices committed specifically by the Military Police. The significant increase in cases of police violence committed against residents of favelas is frequently reported in the media. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze these violations from a normative point of view, since the State, through its agents, has the duty to protect society.
