Abstract
The advent of Federal Law No. 9985/2000, regulated by Decree No. 4340/2002, gave rise to a new legal possibility for regulating areas designated for conservation, the Mosaic of Conservation Units, creating an environmental management model that includes the participation and integration of the local traditional population and the managers of units to be conserved, in order to better protect biodiversity, value social diversity and stimulate sustainable development. In view of the establishment of Mosaics of Conservation Units in the state of São Paulo, we sought to know which ones are in force, whether their creation occurred concomitantly with the creation of Conservation Units or from the reclassification of already existing Units, as well as whether their constitutionality is questioned in light of their creation, as is the case with the Mosaic of Juréia-Itatins, whose establishment is the subject of questioning of constitutionality.
