Abstract
In this article, a brief study has carried out on the role of police intelligence in the police of order and public security. It has intended to deal with the conceptualization of intelligence and the different visions regarding the aspects of knowledge, organization and activity, and could be understood as a product, organization or process. It also dealt with the principles of intelligence activity and intelligence categories, making a brief distinction between them, giving a sharper focus on police intelligence, more precisely about Public Security Intelligence (PSI). It has carried also the comparison between ISP and criminal investigation, dealing with the relevant aspects that differentiate it mainly in the aspect of the objectives of each topic. Finally, the role of Public Safety Intelligence was addressed with its challenges and perspectives for the future.
