Application of war principles to Public Security Demetrius Gomes Lopes

Abstract

This article analyzes the application of the military strategic philosophy in public security activities, considering the meanings of the word war today, it’s conceptual and legal aspects, as well as the criticisms of the use of military language in policing and the cohesion of these principles with Police Science of Security and Public Order. It addresses the applications of the word war today. It also describes the technical concept applied by the Brazilian Army as well as the legal parameters established in the Federal Constitution of 1988 for the use of the Armed Forces in Law and Order Guarantee Operations. Finally, it addresses criticisms of the use of the war metaphor in the field of public security and its consequences. Thus, it is intended a reflection on the possibility of using the principles of military strategy in their own public security activities.
