Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has weakened the social and family bonds of solidarity of the elderly, reinforced discrimination against them, and claimed the lives of thousands of elderly people in Brazil and around the world. Thus, this article aims to understand mistanasia due to ageism from the perspective of the right to life and health in the context of the first year of the novel coronavirus pandemic. To discuss this objective, a narrative review of the literature will be used to elucidate the right to life and health of the elderly in Brazil. In view of this, it was concluded that guaranteeing these fundamental rights of the elderly population is a major challenge in the context of a pandemic, as they are part of the risk group that has the highest mortality rates from the virus.
