Abstract
Santos is a historic city, one of the oldest in Brazil, and has a great historical and cultural heritage, especially in the area of architecture, where large houses, churches and museums can be found. As a result, the city has numerous listed properties to ensure the preservation of these properties. With the aim of reurbanizing and revitalizing the historic center, Complementary Law No. 470, of February 5, 2003, was created, which created the Program for the Revitalization and Urban Development of the Central Macrozone, also known as Alegra Centro. This program aims to protect the cultural and historical heritage of downtown Santos, based on cultural protection areas. In view of this, this text seeks to evaluate its effectiveness, its impacts on the preservation of historical and cultural assets and how the program relates to the City Statute, using the methodology of bibliographic research and documentary analysis, through books, laws, pamphlets, among others.
