Abstract

Introduction: This paper aims to analyze the possible benefits of applying mediation as a way to ensure environmental preservation in conflicts arising from the construction and removal of irregular housing within the mangrove area, evaluating its positive contribution in reducing the advance of current climate change. Mangroves are strong allies in controlling climate change, since they naturally participate in controlling CO2 emissions, capturing and storing it in their biomass. Objective: Often, in the face of housing conflicts for land regularization that occur in this ecosystem, the damage can become irreversible if timely resolution measures are not adopted. It is from this perspective that the aim is to analyze the potential of mediation as an instrument for protecting mangroves and mitigating global warming. Method: The hypothetical-deductive method was adopted for this study, which, through a bibliographic review, allows us to determine the benefits of this institute from the perspective of empowering those involved in the conflict, as well as its effectiveness regarding the feasibility of the solution and the effects resulting from it. Results: After the research, it was found that mediation is a useful instrument that can contribute to the reduction of climate change, since it has experienced the duration of the land regularization process in mangrove areas, also ceasing the damage caused to the environment in a shorter period of time, as well as starting the recovery of the mangrove, which in turn returns to its role of sequestering and storing CO2. Conclusion: Climate change can be mitigated in several aspects, from changes in the energy matrices of countries to the pacification of socio-environmental conflicts related to irregular housing in mangrove areas through mediation. The application of this institute has proven effective in mitigating climate change, through the recovery of the coastal mangrove ecosystem.
