Abstract

The regulation of dredging in Brazil is essential to preserve the environment and navigation safety, and is crucial in maintaining ports and waterways by eliminating harmful sediments. This article's main objective is to explain the need for dredging, its advantages for the Port of Santos while also examining the associated environmental impacts. To achieve the objectives, the study adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach, covering a literature review on the principles of dredging and analysis of regulatory laws in port areas. It is concluded that, in the Port of Santos, dredging is regulated by the Santos Port Authority (APS), which, despite the setbacks, demonstrates investment in environmental sustainability.
