Abstract

Maritime piracy is a crime that has persisted since the early days of navigation, adapting over the centuries to changes in global trade and technological innovations. This article aims to analyze the historical evolution of piracy, highlighting its peak between 1690 and 1730, and addressing the contemporary challenges posed by this criminal activity, particularly in regions such as Somalia. The study also explores international legislation, such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the application of legal frameworks to piracy activities. The analysis provides a critical view of the difficulties in preventing and repressing piracy, as well as assessing its impact on global maritime
