Municipal competence in environmental health actions to comply with SDG 3 of the UN 2030 Agenda

Abstract
Contextualization:United Nations' 2030 Agenda, through its Goal 3, highlights the promotion of health and well-being as one of the fundamental objectives for sustainable development. The Federal Constitution of Brazil, in turn, ensures the protection of health and the environment, granting municipalities the responsibility and legitimacy to create norms and implement actions focused on environmental health. This article demonstrates the necessity of integrating environmental health in the implementation of sustainable development goals, emphasizing the role and responsibility of municipalities in this endeavor. Objetive: Thus, the objective is to emphasize the role of municipalities in executing the Sustainable Development Goal 3, promoting health and well-being through environmental care. Methods: The study adopts a hypothetical-deductive approach, based on bibliographic research, including the analysis of national legislation, public sector guidance manuals, and scientific articles. Results: The study's findings indicate that municipal competence in legislating on health and the environment is crucial for achieving sustainability goals, positioning municipalities as protagonists in environmental and health protection. Conclusion: In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of a transdisciplinary approach and inter-institutional articulation, especially in research on air pollution and the benefits of sanitation for child health.
