Abstract

The present research addresses the issue of prison privatization from the perspective of trying to solve the current inefficient Brazilian prison system, with its many social problems, as well as rebellions, escapes, corruption, inefficiency in rehabilitation, institutionalization of organized crime - factors that make it impossible for the convict to return adequately to social life. Privatization of prisons comes as a proposal and constitutes a complement to state control, as well as the idea of socially accepted cells that brings inordinate and ineffective punishment of imprisonment. This complementation attempts to make public management more efficient in partnership with private initiative (PPP), proposing a possible solution to the serious problems encountered today. From this premise, one may yet have to admit the possibility of continuing to work with the policy of imprisonment, that is, that the idea of imprisonment is necessary and therefore remains in our society. The format of the management of these prisons and the treatment of prisoners should be completely different from the current model. An adequate conception for prison management and also for having and ensuring the proper treatment of those incarcerated concerns a change in criteria. Therefore, a discussion is proposed in order to suggest changes in the penitentiary criminal policy and the prison management model, taking into account the growing demand for more public security in the control societies.
