Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyzes a topic that has been widely discussed recently in the sports world: the inclusion of transgender athletes in high-performance competitions. It analyzes the case of Tiffany Abreu, the first transgender woman to participate in the Women's Volleyball Super League in Brazil, and demonstrates the requirements and how the International Olympic Committee releases her athletes, exposing the positions of committees and athletes. In addition to analyzing the aforementioned topic, this study aims to demonstrate the evolution of the rights acquired by the transgender population in Brazil and sports as a leading means of inclusion and social recognition for these people. The study observes that, among the conflict between constitutional and sports principles, the principle of human dignity is what must be respected, because it is guaranteed in sports legislation and because it is among the fundamental principles of a Democratic State of Law, in line with the Federal Constitution.
