Abstract
This article aims to present reflections on ESG practices (good environmental, social and governance practices), with a focus on environmental issues, highlighting existing mechanisms for achieving sustainable development (a principle whose definition was determined by the UN Our Common Future Report), based on the necessary encouragement of sustainable and environmentally responsible practices by companies/organizations. It also aims to present the dynamics in the relationship between economic development and the right to a balanced environment, considering the difficulties faced and legal responsibility. This study uses documentary analysis, bibliographic research, analysis of scientific articles, legal websites, national legislation and doctrinal support as methodological resources. It is concluded that environmental management tools are indispensable for achieving the desired sustainable development, which is why incentives and improvements to such resources are necessary. Ecosystem degradation has occurred and continues to occur, and the difficulty in its recovery is undeniable. Thus, although there are challenges in implementing control tools, they should not be neglected.
