The protection of human rights of persons with disabilities a historical overview

Abstract
Problem: The violation of the human rights of people with disabilities is a historical reality that requires urgent and effective responses. Objectives: to carry out an analysis of the historical evolution of the rights of people with disabilities, exploring how the treatment given to these individuals over the centuries influenced the development of the contemporary legal framework. Methods: this is a bibliographic-documentary analysis, Results: it is possible to verify that international human rights treaties have been innovative and essential instruments for guaranteeing the fundamental rights of people with disabilities throughout history. Conclusions: Although all the progress inherent in the protection of the rights of people with disabilities is recognized, there are still legislative gaps to be overcome, in order to promote greater inclusion and respect for the rights of these individuals in a globalized society.
