Compulsory hospitalization of drug addicts in the city of São Paulo

Abstract

Contextualization: the problem in the city of São Paulo regarding those dependent on substances of abuse who require care from the public authorities to escape this condition. Problem: Is the individual who uses toxic substances a problem to be faced by public safety or through public policies? What public policies should be managed in this circumstance? What should you call an individual who uses drugs? Objectives: conceptualize and demonstrate what “drugs” are, as well as the relevance of the topic to society. Methods: the deductive method was used, targeting particular situations, with possible consequences in cases of compulsory hospitalization of drug addicts. Results: using the abstinence approach can be an effective tool for sensitizing users to their care. Conclusions: after abstinence, the user can decide to start their care, however, until they enter the abstinence stage, compulsory hospitalization seems to be the only way to achieve this result.
