Abstract

The Breathing Life Project, created and being developed by researchers from the Santa Cecília University, in Santos (SP), aims mainly at mitigating the region's air pollution, whose rates have surpassed by 80% the level considered as safe for the Cheers. This work is based on research carried out by bibliographical review on some forms of mitigation, such as green walls and afforestation. Air pollution has been responsible for the death of millions of people in the world, having increased more than 150% in a decade (2001 - 800 thousand / 2011-2 million). Chronic exposure to air pollution associated with increased morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases has been demonstrated in several scientific publications. The increase of 100 μg / m3 of MP10 is related to the 13% increase in overall mortality (SALDIVA et al., 1995). Mitigating the effects of air pollution leads to a regression of these diseases (WHO, 2016). A review of the city's air pollution data and the estimated benefits for Green Walls and Greening are reviewed.
